US mens soccer fails to qualify for 2018 World Cup.

The United States mens national team will miss the World Cup for the first time since 1986 after a 2-1 loss to Trinidad.

The United States has officially been eliminated from the 2018 World Cup contention after a 2-1 loss to Trinidad Tuesday. This will be the first year the US has failed to reach the World Cup since 1986 ending their streak of seven straight appearances. he national team led by Pulisic will have to wait until 2022 to get another chance at the World Cup.

The United States only needed a tie to qualify for the World Cup after suffering home losses to Mexico last November and Costa Rica. The loss came to the small island of Trinidad who had previously loss their six previous qualifier games. Mexico, Honduras, and Panama will be the three teams to advance out of the United States division.

Troubling signs surfaced right away for the Americans, who played slowly and deliberately, as if they had not fully recovered from Friday’s match.

Trinidad and Tobago scored a pair of first-half goals and the United States failed to rally back to tie the game to qualify. The United States entered the game ranked 28th in the world while Trinidad was ranked 99th.
