Images of Tupac Shakur will probably always emblazon the t-shirts, coffee mugs, and posters of all of your college friends that know way more about music than you do. However, all of this merchandise must secure permission to use these images.
In a recent copyright controversy, legendary photographer Chi Mondu says a merchandiser that supplied apparel to Macy’s and Urban Outfitters has failed to obtain rights to use these images.
Modu says at one time he did give them the right to use the images but that expired in July of 2016. He is now suing the merchandising company, Macy’s and Urban Outfitters for all of the profits gained from the sales.
