Nicki Minaj is a queen, and she's been flying solo lately.

The rapper told Elle Magazine in a new interview that being single has been helping fuel her creativity and it makes her feel "strong and powerful."

Inside her cover story, which was shot by legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld in Paris, she said that from the age of 15 until last fall shes always had a boyfriend. The "Chun-Li" rapper broke up with Nas and Meek Mill recently.

The fact that I am a young woman who doesn't need a man for money. I don't need a man for a job. I've never had to f--k for beats. I've never had to f--k for a record deal. I don't have those pressures. I get up when I want, shop when I want.

"Spiritually, I've experienced more growth in the last six months of my life, of my career, than I have in the last eight years," Minaj said.

She started "second-guessing" herself and had to learn how to sleep alone.

Minaj explained, "As soon as I realized that I could actually live and breathe, and eat and sleep, and walk and talk without having a boyfriend, something clicked in me. Becoming single was one of the things that made me feel strong and powerful."

The rapper continued, "The fact that I am a young woman who doesn't need a man for money. I don't need a man for a job. I've never had to f--k for beats. I've never had to f--k for a record deal. I don't have those pressures. I get up when I want, shop when I want."

The 35-year-old said it's clear in her new work and on her album that she had a change. In her new album Queen she raps, "abstaining from sex had to zen my body. I ain't giving, so don't ask, I don't lend my body. He gotta be king status to get in my body."

Queen will be her first album release in three and a half years, and it will be out in August.
