Flint, Michigan, has been without clean water since 2014, and the Smith family is stepping in to lend a hand.

Will Smith and his son Jaden's eco-friendly water company, JUST, is donating water each month to Flint schools until the city's water is drinkable again. The company's CEO, Ira Laufer, who has already donated 9,200 bottles to the city, decided the donations were extremely necessary for this dire situation.

The concept for the company came from a child who wanted to protect the ocean.

"This just makes sense for us to do," Laufer told MLive. "After reading more about [Flint's] challenges and the mayor objecting to pulling bottled water from the schools, we thought, 'Let's help these kids.' "

Laufer added that the Smith family is "aware of the Flint donation and very excited."

Though the water crisis in Flint is slowly getting better, some schools are still testing for high levels of lead. Nine schools exceed the federal limit, but within the city, lead levels in the water have met federal guidelines for the last 18-months.

There continues to be an ongoing project to remove the lead and lead-tainted pipes; the projected completion is in 2020, with a review of Flint's water quality scheduled for this month.

The Smith family launched JUST to help bring a greener alternative to plastic bottles. Their bottles come from a renewable source and are 82% plant-based. As for their water, that comes from Glen Falls, NY.
