After 13 years, Alex Ovechkin finally has his Stanley Cup.

Lars Eller produced the tiebreaking goal with 7:37 to play, pushing the lo Washington Capitals to the first NHL championship in the franchise's history, in a 4-3 victory over the expansion Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday night in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final.

The Capitals are the first team since 1969 to clinch the Stanley Cup after trailing going into the third period.

Ovechkin capped his Conn Smythe (playoff MVP) run with an early power-play goal to set the tone.

It doesn't matter what happened before. We just won it.

Caps winger Devante Smith-Pelly squared up the game with a full-stretch goal midway into the final period of the Capitals' fourth consecutive victory over the Golden Knights.

For Ovechkin, it solidifies a career as one of the sport's greatest ever.

"We did it," said Ovechkin, per ESPN, after setting a franchise record 15 playoff goals. "That's all that matters. Look at the smiles on my teammates. This is something you'll never forget. This moment, I'll remember for the rest of my life. I'm so happy. It's unbelievable."
