Points leader Sebastian Vettel managed to win an F1 race without crossing the finish line.

Supermodel Winnie Harlow prematurely waved the checkered flag to signal the completion of the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday. It was found race officials accidentally prompted her - two laps early.

She joked about it on a Twitter post, saying she was "so grateful no one was hurt.

Fortunately I had a lap count in the car, and the pit board was accurate. But if you lose radio and maybe the pit board is not there, then you back off. Then being in the lead, you hope all the others back off as well.

"I think it's probably not a question for us," Vettel continued, per ESPN following the race. "I was worried. I told them on the last lap so that people don't jump on the track, waving flags and celebrating, because we're still going at full pace. I don't know what happened."

An F1 race official directed Harlow to wave the flag on what would've been the penultimate lap, indicating the final result was classified from one lap earlier.

However, the error didn't impact the result, since Vettel held running speed for what should have been the final lap.
