Will Johnny Football or Colin Kap comeback?
Who has the best chance at a second opportunity: Johnny Manziel or Colin Kaepernick?
With free agency winding down and pro days underway, much of the quarterback market has settled. With the recent signings of guys like Mike Glennon, Geno Smith and Matt Barkley all getting money to suit up for different teams, combined with the underwhelming signal caller draft class this year football fans wonder
“What about Johnny Manziel or Colin Kaepernick?”
This offseason has been a tale of two cities when talking about Johnny Manziel and Colin Kaepernick. Many NFL pundits wonder who will be the first to land a tryout with a new NFL team, much less landing a contract.

Rewind two seasons ago and you have one player in Johnny Manziel, who was busy partying in Las Vegas in 2015, was being benched in favor of the extremely underwhelming likes of Josh McCownand Austin Davis. Manziel started only six games in his final season at the ‘factory of sadness’ known as the Cleveland Browns. One of those games happened to be against Kaepernick’s San Fransisco 49ers. Manziel won that game 24-10, ending Cleveland’s seven game losing streak.
Manziel would go on to be benched due to an injury and released before the start of the 2016 season. The 2016 Cleveland Browns went on to lose seventeen games in a row since their last win in 2015 that was delivered from the former Heisman trophy winner.

How bout Kap?
While Manziel was released due to plenty of Vegas trips during his Cleveland Browns tenure and a potential domestic violence case hanging over his head, Colin Kaepernick is also busy searching for a new team for just as many publicized reasons.
Colin Kaepernick was a topic of discussion across the nation in 2016, as the former quarterback of the 2012 NFC Champion San Fransisco 49ers decided to kneel every game last season during the national anthem. The former second round pick started eleven games in 2016 and only managed to win one. That single win came against the Los Angles Rams, led by a rookie quarterback. Kaepernick managed to win that game by a single point.
Now that both are searching for a chance at a change of scenery, it looks more and more likely that only one of these two quarterbacks will be signed before the start of the 2017 NFL season kicks off. Despite both their portrayals in the media, it seems Johnny Manziel is trending in the right direction with NFL front offices. Manziel has been clean and sober for the past couple of months, back to working out with ‘quarterback guru’ George Whitfield, engaged to his new girlfriend and mentally seems to be a whole new person that has learned from his mistakes.
With an NFL.com report that the New Orleans Saints are interested in Johnny Manziel, I’m willing to now say it conclusively: The only reason Kaepernick is being passed over is for his peaceful anthem protest last season.
Between Johnny Manziel and Colin Kaepernick, I honestly see Manziel playing again in 2017. While Manziel has committed to weekly drug tests, Kaepernick has committed to standing every week during the national anthem. While that feels extremely fake on Kaepernicks’ part, and wrong on multiple levels, he exercised his right of freedom of speech last season, just like NFL owners are exercising their right to (not) consider him to play for their teams.
Manziel seems to have turned a new leaf and looks like he has rediscovered himself while Kaepernick only seems to be more disillusioned now than he was when kneeling during the national anthem.
