EA acquires Titanfall developer, Respawn Entertainment

Electronic Arts is set to acquire developer of the critically-acclaimed franchise, Titanfall, in a deal valued over $400 million.

Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) announced the acquisition of the studio responsible for the critically-acclaimed Titanfall franchise, Respawn Entertainment, LLC. Moves for acquisition were decided after a proven successful partnership between Respawn Entertainment and EA. Additionally, EA and Respawn Entertainment have multiple projects? in development such as a "new title in the Titanfall franchise, a game set in the Star Wars universe and a VR gaming experience."

In addition to $151 million in cash, EA's agreement proposes up to $164 million in long-term equity to employees in the form of restricted stock units, vesting in 4 years. EA is also offering up to $140 million in consideration contingent upon milestones and achievements. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2017.
