'GTA 5' has raked in billions and made more money than any movie ever

Grand Theft Auto 5 is inarguably one of the most controversial video games of all time, often criticized for its depiction of torture, open misogyny, foul language, and wanton violence.

But all of that hasn't held it back.

In fact, per MarketWatch, since its release in September 2013, Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold 90 million units, amassing to $6 billion it has become the single most profitable commercial entertainment product of all time.

For added perspective, Game Rant notes that it has beaten every film ever made, including Star Wars and Gone With the Wind  even adjusted for inflation, and adding in both DVD and streaming sales.

With a budget over $265 million, Take-Two Interactive Inc. sure anticipated getting back much more than was put into the game and its subsequent updates. However, this represents a resounding success that will likely take the company to new heights if it hasn't already been accomplished.

I think it's a wild outlier. I think maybe with the exception something Nintendo has made Mario Brothers but aside from that theres never been a console game thats sold so many units.
