Oakland Raiders President Marc Badain has been in discussion over recent weeks with the Oakland Coliseum Authority about potentially extending the Raiders’s current lease past the 2018 contract date. This one or two year delay in moving to Las Vegas seems to primarily allow for completion of their new stadium.
The $1.9 billion stadium has yet to break ground, planning to later this year with an unspecified date. The stadium is projected to hold 65,000 people, have a wall of windows that can open, huge olympic style torch for longtime owner Al Davis, and a stadium long screen for tailgates outside.
“For sure we are talking about a one-year extension and there’s a real likelihood we could be talking about two years.”
With Las Vegas still trying to get the ball rolling on their new stadium it appears that Oakland fans may very well get that chance to hold on to their team just a little while longer.
