In an explosive article by ESPN's Seth Wickersham, Brady reportedly forced the trade of his then-backup Jimmy Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers, in the midst of a rift with Bill Belichick.

The removal of Brady's friend and business partner Alex Guerrero from team involvement has been a major source of strife.

Wickersham reports that the three main entities - Brady, Belichick, and owner Robert Kraft - are in some strange, multifaceted power struggle, which includes Brady reportedly going to owner Robert Kraft to make the trade demand.

The article is being criticized in some circles for lack of sourcing.

The imminent exodus raises the question going forward: Is it possible that Belichick would rather walk away than try to rebuild the staff with a 41-year-old Brady and another year of Guerrero drama -- all while trying to develop a new quarterback?

It's clear that if Brady wanted Garoppolo traded, that he likely saw him as a threat to his legacy.

Brady likely understands that his legacy is directly based on the subsequent falloff after his retirement, and also that he was fortunate to have even received his opportunity.

If you remember, the 40-year-old was once an unheralded sixth-round pick that got his shot after an injury to Drew Bledsoe.
