Perhaps feeling the pressure to perform going into his final contract year, New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram was suspended four games for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances, per multiple media reports.

The 28-year-old, coming off his best season, will miss games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons and New York Giants.

They're going to go in the direction of Alvin Kamara anyway, clearly going to be their featured guy on offense. But, obviously Mark Ingram is a nice one-two punch for Kamara and now they will not have him for the first four games of the 2018 season.

Ingram will be eligible to return to the Saints' active roster on Monday, Oct. 1, but he can still participate in all offseason practices and preseason games.

Ingram is scheduled to earn a base salary of $4 million in the final year of his deal, which will be reduced by nearly $1 million (and likely more in bonus money) with the suspension.

The loss of games put Ingram behind the eight-ball in regards to future contract negotiations.
