Rob Gronkowski close to getting a reworked deal with Patriots

It's likely that Gronk's new deal would be front-loaded if any additional salary is added to his contract - mainly to protect the Patriots from injury and future retirement situations.

Tight end Rob Gronkowski and the Patriots are working toward a new contract, and it's likely that the All-Pro will play the upcoming season with a new deal, according to The Athletic.

Since Gronkowski notified head coach Bill Belichick of his decision to play 2018, the sides have committed to reworking his deal. However, it's unknown how the contract will be augmented or reworked.

I'm gonna keep working hard, and I'm excited for the 2018 season. I'm ready for another championship run.

Gronkowski is signed through the 2019 season and will earn up to $9 million this season ($8 million base salary $750,000 per-game roster bonuses and a $250,000 workout bonus) and $10 million in 2019 ($9 million base plus the same $1 million in bonuses).

It's likely that Gronk's new deal would be front-loaded if any additional salary is added to his contract - mainly to protect the Patriots from injury and future retirement situations.
