New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman is unsure of what triggered the positive PED test result, but regardless, he's sorry.

The football star is facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances, but he confirmed on Friday that he is appealing the decision.

It was tough to watch it on the sidelines last year. To come out here and do little things, strap on the helmet, it put some perspective on how lucky you are to get to play the game.

Edelman took to social media to share his apology, telling fans, "I am very sorry -- I don't know what happened."

"I've taken many, many tests obviously over the course of my career, and nothing like this has ever happened," he continued. "I apologize to the Kraft family, my coaches, teammates and fans. As this matter is being appealed, I can't say anymore but no matter what, I will be ready to play and pursue another championship with our team and for Patriots fans around the world."

The 32-year-old is returning from an ACL tear during the 2017 preseason that forced him to miss the entire season. He is entering his 10th season in the NFL.
