Johnny Manziel says he'd play in the NFL for free

Johnny Manziel desires a chance to play in the NFL again, and he claims he will to even play for free, per a recent tweet.

He will begin his resurrection attempt in The Spring League in Austin, Texas, a two-week developmental league starting March 28. 

NFL Networks Mike Garafolo reported earlier Wednesday that Manziel would agree to a deal with no guaranteed salary (h/t He also says Manziel has had discussions with multiple NFL head coaches about his comeback.

The 25-year-old former Heisman Trophy winner has been out of the league since 2015, after Cleveland released him following a domestic violence arrest along with poor play.

“Teams have been informed that Manziel will take zero dollars guaranteed, minimum salary, if need be, Garafolo said. “Hes still eligible for the practice squad. He would be open to signing a practice squad contract, staying on a teams practice squad and proving he is in the right mindset throughout this entire NFL season.

It appears that playing in the Canadian Football League is on the backburner, or at least a last resort option.
