Carson Palmer retires

One of the great USC Trojans and former number one overall pick finishes 12th in NFL history in passing yards (46,247), 12th in touchdowns (294) and 11th in pass completions (3,941).

After 15 seasons in the NFL and a college career that ended with a Heisman Trophy, quarterback Carson Palmer has retired, per multiple sources.

"Over the years, Ive had teammates who decided to hang it up and I would ask them how they knew when it was time to walk away," Palmer wrote. "The answer was almost always the same: You just know."

"For me that time is now. Why? Quite simply, I just know."

He was as tough as they come.

Palmer, who played for the Cardinals, Bengals, and Raiders, finishes 12th in NFL history in passing yards (46,247), 12th in touchdowns (294) and 11th in pass completions (3,941).

Arizona will like be looking for a quarterback, as Blaine Gabbert, Drew Stanton and Matt Barkley will likely become free agents at season's end.

Future Hall of Fame receiver and career-long Cardinal Larry Fitzgerald is also contemplating retirement from the game. Coach Brian Arians retired immediately following last Sunday's game.
