After the eighth of ten Browns' OTA practices, number one overall pick Baker Mayfield was promoted from third-team to second-team quarterback.

However, head coach Hue Jackson is cautioning against looking too far into Mayfield's move, though loud whispers are saying the rookie is lighting it up.

"I just mixed it up," said Jackson. "Theres nothing behind that. I want to keep tinkering with that."

I made a decision with the staff this week to make [Mayfield] second [team] and get some reps there. Nobody should read anything into it. Its an opportunity to go out there a little sooner than he has, thats all.

In other significant but anticipated news, the coaching staff promoted rookie cornerback Denzel Ward from the second team to the first team.

The Ohio State product and number four overall selection is widely expected to start for the Browns from Day One of the regular season.

"Hes earned it," Jackson said, per ESPN. "Hes working. Hes doing good things. Plays a position that we think we've been needing a guy to step up. We know he's very talented. Thats why we drafted him."

"[Ward] is learning a complicated system that we have on defense," he added. "I think he's handled that pretty well."
