Annapurna Pictures released the excellent first trailer for The Sisters Brothers, the upcoming Western dark comedy adaptation based on the Patrick DeWitt novel.

Screenwriter/director and Palme dOr winner Jacques Audiard makes his English-language debut, with Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly set to star. The duo plays the bickering brothers, Eli and Charlie Sisters, hired guns tasked with executing a prospector who's stolen from their boss.

(On the attention he got for The Sisters Brothers) There was so much of a before and after that it took me months to understand. I went from having maybe 2,000 readers to having many more. In the years since I realized how lucky I was to have that happen. The hardest thing in the world for a writer is to amass a readership. So many good books come out and so many good books disappear. I felt like my first novel was a decent book, and it just vanished. So something occurs in you, after readers first notice your work, where you dont want to lose that. I dont think its corrupted me or informed my work, but its there. Im not keen to go back to the way things were.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Riz Ahmed also feature in the film, a dark shoot'em up/comedic hybrid set in Oregon during 1851.

An official release date hasn't been announced, but it's slated for a late 2018 debut. Prognosticators are consistent that the film will like make a major festival run to ensure full qualification ahead of awards season.
