We will be feeling the need for speed once again!

The sequel to the 1986 classic summer blockbuster Top Gun is underway, says its star Tom Cruise. The legendary actor took to social media on Thursday (May 31) to share the first picture from the set with the caption, "Day 1."

Cruise will once again play Maverick, who's now a flight instructor in the modern Navy. There is still no word on co-stars.

The need for speed and big, fast machines.

The actor did reveal to Deadline that, "Its going to be a competition film like the first one, and its going to be in the same vein and the same tone as the first" with "the need for speed and big, fast machines."

Adding,  "Theres gonna be jets."

Joseph Kosinski is directing the film and will reteam with Cruise as they previously made sci-fi pic Oblivion together.
