With Paddington filmmaker Paul King in line to direct its new Willy Wonka movie for Warner Bros., the company has created a shortlist to portray the title character: Ryan Gosling, Donald Glover, and Ezra Miller.

Per multiple reports, Harry Potter producer David Heyman and screenwriter Simon Rich (Man Seeking Woman) will work on the film, rumored to be a prequel that explores Wonkas origin story.

You'd hope we'd see exactly how Wonka managed to ingratiate himself with a species of small but precocious singing gnomes, save them from their enemies and blag free labour from them.

The studio is already invested in Miller, who stars in WBs Fantastic Beasts franchise and plays The Flash in the DC movie universe.

IGN reports that Glover has been chasing the role, looking to significantly build on his star-turns in his FX network show Atlanta, and in the Star Wars/Solo film.

Gosling has worked with Warner Bros. on such films as Blade Runner 2049 and The Nice Guys with Russell Crowe.
