Alongisde the debut of the four-part documentary, “The Defiant Ones,” by Dr. Dre and former Interscope CEO Jimmy Iovine’s, a new single from Dre also premiered during the broadcast. The song, named “Gunfiyah,” is Dre’s first solo since the 2016 album “Compton”, alongisde the similarly named N.W.A. documentary.
Many outlets and fans have speculated that Kendrick Lamar may have written the track. Though this is unconfirmed, Lamar has ghostwritten for Dre in the past.
At the same time, Eminem has returned slowly returned the spotlight this year, most recently teasing a collaboration with 2 Chainz. While Eminem has been quiet except for the feature on “No Favors” alongside Big Sean, a quote from Allen Hughes seems to hint at a new album from Slim Shady.
Dre still records. People don’t know this: Dre records every day. Literally, he’s in there recording songs every day. He’s like Picasso in that way. He’s always painting. Right now he’s producing, in the 11th hour, a track for Eminem’s latest album. So Dre’s still real active in music, you know? But I hear what you’re saying. It’s the truth.
