Taylor Swift vs Katy Perry: a breakdown of their longstanding feud

The years-long feud between Taylor Swift and Katy Perry seems to be over, but what actually started this mess?

The feud between Katy Perry and Taylor Swift went on for a long time and while it seems to have stopped thanks to a present of an actual olive branch from Perry let's take a look at where it all began.

When Swift released her song "Bad Blood" she told Rolling Stone taht the song was about a female singer who tried to sabotage her tour: "She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think 'Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?' "

Then the 28-year-old added, "She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me."

I wish that I could turn the other cheek every single time, but I'm also not a pushover, you know? Especially when someone tries to assassinate my character with little girls. That's so messed up!

Those people were her backup dancers. It was later revealed that Perry was trying to steal dancers from Swift's tour. One of the dancers, Lockhart Brownlie told OK! Magazine, "We weren't really dancing on Taylor's tour anyway, so I got a little bored. The experiences were totally different."

After the Rolling Stone interview came out, Perry tweeted, "Watch out for the Regina George in sheep's clothing..." of course, referencing Swift.

The pop stars were lying low for a while until Perry released her Witness album. The one song that stood out was "Swish Swish," which seemed like a direct jab at Swift.

The 33-year-old also told Entertainment Weekly, "One thing to note is: You can't mistake kindness for weakness and don't come for me."

In an interview with James Corden she also detailed the feud and said, "Honestly, like, she started it, and its time for her to finish it."

However, later on, in a long tearful livestrem on YouTube, Perry said, "I forgive [Swift], and I'm sorry for anything I ever did, and I hope the same from her, and I think it's actually... I think it's time. I love her and I want the best for her, and I think she's a fantastic songwriter."

Now we're here, with the olive branch. On opening night of Swift's Reputation tour, she showed fans the package that contained an actual olive branch with a note that read, "Hey old friend, I've been doing some reflecting on past miscommunications and hurt feelings between us..."

Swift can be heard in the video saying, "I just got to my dressing room and found this actual olive branch. This means so much to me."
