Mindy Kaling is amazing. The Emmy-nominated actress and writer is now the co-creator and executive producer on the new NBC series Champions, had a long run with her shows The Mindy Project and The Office and now she's a mom to her daughter Katherine Kaling.

The actress opened up to Hoda Kotb on The Today Show Wednesday about her new role mom.

"She's so great and I just love being a mom," Kaling said of her daughter.

Since the baby is still very young, Kaling revealed it was a bit hard adjusting at first, saying there was "0 feedback except for crying for the longest time. Then you start wondering, 'Does she care about me? Know about me besides that I'm a food source for her?"

The author went on to gushed about Katherine's laugh.

"It's very nice actually because versus my real job where it takes so much effort to make these shows and everything," she said. "I just sing 'The Sound of Music' to her. It's the best."

That's really moving...When I was coming up, there was no one who looked like me on TV or film and that was such a nice thing that he remembered that. I'm legit crying.

Aside from baby talk, the actress also dished about other important people in her life: her close friend and former co-star, B.J. Novak.

Novak posted a photo of a Wrinkle in Time advertisement with her face on it a few weeks back with the caption, "When I met @mindykaling in 2004, she lived in a small apartment off Fairfax in Hollywood. This is what's in front of that building today."

Kaling then started to tear up during the interview recalling the post, saying, "That's really moving. When I was coming up, there was no one who looked like me on TV or film and that was such a nice thing that he remembered that. I'm legit crying."
