Met Gala 2018 roundup: shockers, fails and stunning looks

The Met Gala always kicks off on the first Monday in May and this year's looks did not disappoint.

Celebrities took to the stairs of the Met on Monday night (May 7) to show off their stunning looks. The theme of this year's Ball was "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination," and it led to some incredible looks.

Rihanna: RiRi practically owns the Met Ball; she came dressed in a heavy brocade dress with a matching papal cape and miter, the hat worn by the pope.

Zendaya: While a lot of celebrities adopted the "knight" look, no one did it better than Zendaya. She came dressed as Joan of arc in a chainmail dress by Versace and a perfect red blunt bob wig.

This one perhaps more than any other. But the focus is on a shared hypothesis about what we call the Catholic imagination and the way it has engaged artists and designers and shaped their approach to creativity, as opposed to any kind of theology or sociology. Beauty has often been a bridge between believers and unbelievers.

Blake Lively: An actual angel. Lively wore a custom Versace gown. The dress was a deep burgundy embellished with jewels. She wore a custom-made halo, a reoccurring look of the night. The actress had over $2 million worth of Lorraine Schwartz jewelry on her for the look.

Katy Perry: Always doing the most, Perry also wore custom Versace for her look. The dress was short and gold and she paired it with thigh-high boots, though the main part of the outfit was the giant wings. Very giant wings.

Lana Del Rey and Jared Leto: So, Leto was Jesus. He was outfitted in Gucci with a blue suit and gilded crown while Lana Del Rey echoed his aesthetic with a long white Gucci dress and a large feathered headpiece. She looked like an angel.

Kim Kardashian: Kardashian wasn't going to miss the Met Gala despite her husband Kanye West's downward spiral. The reality star showed up last night in a gorgeous Versace dress that clearly had been tailor made for her body because it fit so well.

Shailene Woodley: A lot of celebs went for the "Crusades" look, but Woodley's outfit looked like a failed cosplay attempt. The dress looked like a weird material, and it didn't fit her body well. The hair didn't help.
