Kim Kardashian has been campaigning for the release of Ms. Alice Marie Johnson, and it worked.

The 63-year-old grandmother's case made national news when Kardashian started tweeting about it to her followers. Johnson was sentenced to life in prison without parole in 1997 for money laundering and drug conspiracy charges; it was her first offense.

Kardashian recently went to speak with President Trump about granting her clemency. She and her attorney, Shawn Holley, have been working closely with Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner for several months.

Im so grateful to President Trump, Jared Kushner and to everyone who has showed compassion and contributed countless hours to this important moment for Ms. Alice Marie Johnson. Her commutation and forthcoming release is inspirational and gives hope to so many others who are also deserving of a second chance.

Now, Trump has signed off on granting her clemency. Johnson will be released from the Aliceville Correctional Facility in Alabama.

Kardashian released a statement saying, "I'm so grateful to President Trump, Jared Kushner and to everyone who has showed compassion and contributed countless hours to this important moment for Ms. Alice Marie Johnson. Her commutation and forthcoming release is inspirational and gives hope to so many others who are also deserving of a second chance."

The social media star added, "I hope to continue this important work by working together with organizations who have been fighting this fight for much longer than I have and deserve the recognition."

It probably didnt hurt that the reality star's husband Kanye West has been adamantly supporting Trump on social media lately.

Alice Marie Johnson thanked Kim for her support, saying, "Ms. Kardashian you are literally helping to save my life and restore me to my family. I was drowning and you have thrown me a life jacket and given me hope."
