Actress Kristen Stewart defied convention and took her heels off during the Cannes Film Festival as a protest.

Kristen Stewart posed in her outfit for some pictures wearing a silver mini dress by Chanel and Christian Louboutin heels which she promptly kicked off.

The actress then went barefoot on the red carpet and carried her heels into the screening.

Stewart is serving as a Cannes Competition jury member this year, and it looks like she made the move in protest. The festival has a strict dress code including a rude that women wear heels.

There's definitely, like, a distinct dress code, right? People get very upset at you if you, like, don't wear heels or somethingwhatever.

In 2015 a lot of women were reportedly turned away from the premiere of the movie Carol and told to come back wearing the right shoes.

A spokesperson for Cannes told BBC, "Rules have not changed throughout the years (tuxedo, formal dress for gala screenings) and there is no specific mention about the height of the womens heels as well as for men's."

The rule seems pretty outdated, and plenty of women have spoken out about it with Emily Blunt saying, "I think everyone should wear flats, to be honest" when asked about the rule at her screening for Sicario in 2015.
