Cavaliers star Kyle Korver takes leave of absence after 27-year-old brother dies

Himself a former college basketball player at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Kirk Korver had reportedly fallen ill last week.

Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kyle Korver is taking a leave of absence from the club, following the passing of his brother, Kirk, per The New York Times.

Korver missed a 114-109 Cavaliers victory over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday, with what the team termed personal reasons."'s Joe Verdon previously reported that Korver left to visit his brother, who had fallen ill from an undisclosed ailment.

Korver did return to score 12 points in 28 minutes in a Monday night win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

Kirk Korver was 27 years old.

We are very sad to share that Cavaliers guard Kyle Korvers brother, Kirk, passed away today. Kyle has been excused from the team to be with his family. We extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt best to Kyle and his entire family as they go through this very difficult time.

Kirk Korver played his college ball at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, scoring 597 points in his three seasons on the team. From a basketball-centric family, all four brothers played at the collegiate level, per The New York Times. 

Kyle Korver's return to the Cavaliers is currently unknown. Cleveland, already shorthanded via various injuries, will play the Eastern Conference-leading Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night.
