In 2008, Michael Beasley was one of the hottest names in basketball. Today, he is thankful for a chance to play in the NBA, but that isn’t deterring him from making bold statements. In a recent interview, he said that he was on the same talent level as KD and Lebron James.
The second overall pick in the 2008 draft has had his fair share of issues since coming to the league. Being taken only behind Derrick Rose and ahead of players like Russell Westbrook, Beasley had extremely high expectations coming in to the league. Legal issues have held Beasley back as he recently bounced around the league before heading to China.
As far as talent-wise, I match up with Kevin [Durant], LeBron [James], I match up with the best guys in the world. I’m not being cocky; it’s just always how I felt. But I got into trouble as soon as I got into the NBA, and it left a bad taste in a lot of people’s mouths.
SF, Michael Beasley
Last season, Beasley was named MVP of the China Basketball Association. He averaged 31.9 points, 13.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.0 steals for the Shandong Golden Stars and was named the MVP of the all-star game. Does Beasley have enough left in the tank to make a comeback at the age of 28? Only time will tell.
