Maryland high schooler scores 90 points in a game

Simmons was averaging 30.3 points per game, and actually isn't a big three-point shooter. He only hit three in the game, but went 42-for-60 from the field.

On Tuesday night, Arundel Christian (Hanover, Md.) senior guard Darien Simmons scored 90 points in a 112-60 win over Rockbridge Academy (Millersville, Md.).

His coach, Derek Daniels, had informed Simmons during halftime that hed already managed 44 points, per USA Today. Simmons thought about LaMelo Ball's 92 point explosion last year when he was still at Chino Hills (Calif.)

But Simmons settled on a tamer scoring goal.

I had a goal to score 70 points in the game. I scored 50 points earlier in the season and I saw a kid in Virginia scored 60 points a few weeks ago so I wanted 70. I guess I scored a few more than that.

With his team utilizing the press, the six-foot-two combo guard Simmons went 42-for-60 from the field, including 3-7 from three. He made three of six from the charity stripe.

90 points is an amazing achievement, one to be remembered. However, in fairness, the tape shows they didn't have much competition. Some of the kids playing for Rockbridge looked like they didn't belong in high school, much less a senior team.
